I have done this many times, and continue to do it sometimes to this day, as we still sometimes use onesies even for my quickly growing 1-year-old.

Members of Meridian Knights of Columbus Council #802 look through coats to be delivered with Ricky Hood, director of Boys and Girls Club of East Mississippi. The Knights provided more than 100 coats to the Boys and Girls Club of East Mississippi for distribution to children in need of a warm coat. This decade-long program has impacted children in the greater Meridian area. Project director, William Nix, says, "For Children without a warm coat it’s hard to study well, it’s hard to play well.”

"It’s always difficult to move away from a creative idea that has done so well for us," Sanchez says. "It was a tough decision [but] it was backed by research so we really did our due diligence."

Teething can begin as early as 3 months of age. This natural process is aided by chewing.  Just as there are benefits to avoiding plastic feeding tools, it’s also sensible to use plastic-free teething toys. In general, a very lightweight jacket is less durable—but more comfortable in the summer—than a heavy-duty one, which would hold up better under a heavy backpack during a serious expedition. One simple indicator of how robust the jacket is to check its actual weight, which will be measured in ounces. For example, a lightweight jacket could weigh just around 6 ounces, whereas a gnarly, heavyweight item could be over a pound.

“It was pretty awesome to watch the kids go into a room and pick out brand new jackets. They sent the first group in and these were kids who had never had a new jacket in their lives,” Boham said. “Not only that, there were a couple of kids who came up to us and said they had received their first new coat a few years ago and still have it. We have people who donate every year and each year we have received more coats. It feels like it’s a bit slower this year and maybe that’s due to the number of people affected by the fires and people have donated to that, but the feedback and support we have gotten has been awesome.”
